Privacy Policy

ourhouse build is an Australian service for people managing their own home build. This policy explains what we collect, why, and who else sees it. If anything here is unclear, email david@ourhousebuild.com.au and we'll answer.
What we collect
If you download a free guide: your email address, the guide you asked for, and the campaign details in the link you clicked (source, medium, campaign, content and the referring page). Where our host provides it, we record the country your request came from. We do not store your IP address.
If you create an account: your name, email address and a securely hashed password — never the password itself. Payment card details are entered directly with Stripe and never reach our servers.
What you put into the app: everything you record about your build — project details, budgets, contract stages, loan and drawdown figures, contacts, site diary entries, variations, inspections, defects, and any documents, plans, photos or receipts you upload.
Who else sees it
We use a small number of service providers, and only for the purpose listed:
- Stripe — payments and subscription billing. Stripe handles your card details directly.
- SendGrid — sending email (guides, password resets, account notices).
- Railway — hosting and database storage.
- OpenAI — powers the in-app AI assistant. When you ask the assistant a question, relevant details from your project (such as budget figures, contacts, document titles and notes) are sent to OpenAI to generate the answer. If you would rather this never happen, simply don't use the assistant — the rest of the app works without it.
- Meta — on our marketing pages only, we use the Meta Pixel and Conversions API to measure advertising. When you submit a guide request, a one-way hashed version of your email address is sent to Meta so they can attribute the result to an ad. Meta cannot read the address from the hash. This tracking does not run inside the signed-in app.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your build data with anyone else.
Marketing emails
If you request a guide, you are consenting to receive that guide plus occasional emails about building. Every one of those emails carries a working unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes one click with no login. You can also email us and we'll remove you.
How long we keep things
Account and build data is kept while your subscription is active. When a subscription ends, the files you uploaded — documents, plans, drawings, progress photos, mood board images and receipts — are permanently deleted from our servers. Your written records (budget figures, diary entries, variations and similar) are retained. Download anything you want to keep before you cancel.
Guide-download records are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email david@ourhousebuild.com.au and we'll action it within a reasonable time, and in any case within 30 days.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Passwords are hashed. Uploaded files are served only to the signed-in account that owns them. No system is perfectly secure, but we don't store anything we don't need — which is why we never keep your card details or your IP address.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we'll update the date above and, where the change affects you, tell you by email.
